Senior Researcher, Institute of Politics and Economy
Hiroshi Kitamura is a political scientist. He is currently a senior researcher at the Institute of Politics and Economy, and a visiting researcher at Waseda Institute of Medical Anthropology on Disaster Reconstruction (WIMA). He was elected as an assembly member at Saitama prefecture from 2007 to 2011. Since 2011, as a deputy director of the private relief organization, Shinsai Shien Network Saitama (SSN), he participates in many projects supporting victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima nuclear accident. His research interests are philosophy of modern politics, contemporary social studies, and civil society movements. Recently, he has delved into several issues surrounding civil society, such us democratic principles and social exclusion and inclusion.
