Atsushi Ogihara is a professor and director of the Advanced Research Center for Human Sciences at Waseda University. His main areas of research are social medicine, social welfare, and regional vitalization studies. His Ph.D. in medicine is from Juntendo University. He obtained the United Nations University Akino Memorial Research Fellowship in 2004 and is a certified social worker and certified psychiatric social worker. He contributes to society as president of a non-profit organization for community social work. Dr. Ogihara also works as a member of the Health Planning Committee, Social Education Committee, and Policy Research Council in Tokorozawa City, Japan.
