Shuzo Hirata is lecturer in the Department of Child Studies at Sendai Seiyo Gakuin College, and adjunct researcher at Waseda University. His specialties are developmental psychology and child welfare. The main focus of his research is life story work for foster children, which is one of the methods for supporting children whose memories are vague, unreliable, or inaccessible due to past experiences of separation or abuse. He has been working on the Kasasagi Project to survey and support families that evacuated to Kanto after the Tohoku Earthquake.
